Iron Fist: Danny Rand Will Help Defenders See "The Bigger Picture"

This week, Netflix is set to debut its first Marvel series of the year. Following the clear success of Luke Cage, the streaming site will be unleashing Iron Fist upon the world when the hero's show premieres on Friday. The new series will mark the fourth Netflix has done with Marvel since Daredevil debuted a few years back - and the franchise is only just getting started. Later this year, Netflix and Marvel will team up to give fans their most ambitious small-screen project to date.

When fall comes around, Netflix is expected to assemble a superhero squad of its own. The down-home heroes from its previous shows will unite to create the Defenders, a squad of vigilantes who defend Hell's Kitchen and have a few chips on their shoulders. Right now, the ensemble series is in production, and Marvel has been hush with its details so far. But, thanks to Finn Jones, fans know a bit more about Iron Fist's role on the team.

Recently, the star of Iron Fist spoke with Entertainment Tonight about his work on The Defenders. While the actor could not say much specifically, Jones was able to say that his character will help broaden his teammates' perspectives.

"Danny understands the bigger threat, because he's been dealing it all throughout his life and all throughout season one of Iron Fist," Jones said, teasing his character's role in the Defenders. "So, when he meets The Defenders, he's the one who really drives the group to understand the bigger picture."

Before he could say much else, Jones made sure to stop himself before he waded into spoiler territory. After all, Marvel is known to be very protective of its secrets, and the Iron Fist star didn't want the studio to bring Thor's hammer down on him.

"I never know how much trouble I'm going to get into," Jones joked. "I think I did a good job though."

In Marvel's Iron Fist, fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family's legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

Based on the Marvel Comics character created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Marvel's Iron Fist is developed by Scott Buck, who serves as the series showrunner. Iron Fist stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, the Iron Fist, as well as Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Rosario Dawson.

Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are all available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17, 2017. The Defenders expected later in the year. The Punisher does not have a release date yet.
