Robert Downey Jr. Shares His Favorite Version Of Spider-Man: Homecoming Poster

Robert Downey Jr. is the only one that thinks the latest Spider-Man: Homecoming poster could use more Iron Man!

After Sony Pictures and Marvel released a very busy new poster for Spider-Man: Homecoming late last month, it was quickly ridiculed for numerous reasons, chief among them is that Tony Stark/Iron Man (Downey Jr.) is featured as prominently as its title character.

Based on that poster, which you can view in our gallery below, some fans might falsely assume Homecoming is a Spider-Man, Iron Man team-up film. Of course, that's not all what it is. Tony Stark/Iron Man will only appear in four or five scenes to mentor Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and to further connect Sony's rebooted Spidey with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Poking fun at the outrage, Downey Jr. shared a fan-edit of the poster that is filled to the gills with images of himself as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. And not to stroke his ego too much, the artist left the images of Peter and Spider-Man mostly untouched.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Marshall-Green, and Marisa Tomei.

The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017.
