Jessica Henwick Teases Classic Marvel Team-Up In Defenders

It's been a while since a Marvel Studios property offered that classic team-up feeling. 2012's The Avengers certainly offered it. Guardians of the Galaxy captured the magic in 2014. The movies which brought together several characters since have either felt like a quick episode in the MCU or divided the squad.

With The Defenders, Marvel's big ensemble effort on Netflix, the feeling of a classic Marvel team-up will be revived. By the sound of it, it will be reminiscent of those classic Power Man & Iron Fist tales or Iron Man & Captain America books.

In a recent interview with EW, Colleen Wing actress Jessica Henwick opened up about her opinion of The Defenders. "It's good, it's really good," Henwick said. "I think people are going to love seeing characters interact with each other, they're going to see Colleen and Misty, (actress Simone Missick), they're going to love seeing Luke Cage with the Iron Fist, Danny Rand. I think fans are going to freak out."

The specific mention of Luke Cage teaming up with Danny Rand sparks a bit of particular interest for comic book fans. The two characters are known to team up in Marvel Comics under the previously mentioned Power Man & Iron Fist title.

Henwick's Colleen was introduced in Iron Fist, a character living in New York City and operating her own training facility which gets a boost when Danny Rand becomes involved. This, of course, involved the character in a much bigger puzzle than her life originally called for. Still, in The Defenders, Colleen Wing will be on an adventure she couldn't have expected despite the bizarre events of Iron Fist.

"We pick up with Colleen not in New York — which is crazy, as all the shows have been predominantly in New York," Henwick said. "We find her a month after we left her. It's really interesting she hasn't been able to deal with the emotional trauma she dealt with in Iron Fist. So it builds to a head and she explodes in Defenders."

Marvel's The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel's The Defenders is the culmination of everything Marvel Television has been building up to so far with its Netflix series. It began in Marvel's Daredevil, where Matt Murdock became the Devil of Hell's Kitchen to fight off criminals in the area. He went up against Kingpin and the Punisher and eventually uncovered a vast conspiracy involving the cult-like crime organization called The Hand.
