Marvel Announces Cable #1 for ResurrXion

The newest teaser for Marvel's "ResurrXion," the line-wide relaunch of X-Men and Inhumans comics after the "Death of X" event gives Cable a new ongoing series. The teaser for Cable #1 shows many incarnations of the character, from his first appearance at the hands of creator Rob Liefeld and co-creator Fabian Nicieza, to takes on the character in the future, past, as a child, and even with a child (baby Hope) all in the frames of the teaser.

Like the other series: Jean Grey, Iceman, Weapon X, and Generation X, the teaser did not come with a creative team, but rather just those snapshots of the character's past.

The five new X-Men family series announced this week fly in the face of criticism and rumors that Marvel Comics had all but abandoned the X-Men family of characters. The rumor mill had it that due to Marvel and Fox's contentious relationship in licensing for film, Marvel was pigeon-holing the characters that Fox had to use (this, the conspiracy said, was why Wolverine was killed off - despite no less than three characters stepping into the role). This initiative, pushing the family of characters to the forefront once more, should stem some of that talk.

Cable has had several solo comics, as well as being a named member of X-Force in several line-ups, and sharing a series with his old pal Deadpool. He's also due a push, as he'll be appearing in the sequel to the Deadpool movie, though casting has been kept under wraps for the role.

Most successfully, Cable had a solo comic in the nineties that ran from May 1993 to September 2002, for 107 issues. In that comic run, his backstory was officially confirmed, and it's the best and most comic book back story in all of comics.

The son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor (herself a clone of Jean Grey), Nathan Christopher Charles Summers was sent into the far future after being infected by a techno-organic virus that was incurable in the present day. There, he was raised by the Askani clan, gaining another pair of names to the end of his title, Dayspring and Askani'Son. He was raised in that future by "Slim" and "Redd" - who were actually Scott Summers and Jean Grey's consciousnesses time-traveling into new future bodies while on their honeymoon, and also by Mother Askani - who was actually Rachel Summers, his genetic sister from an alternate timeline. When Nathan Christopher Charles Summers Dayspring Askani'Son came to the past to train a proactive team of mutants (X-Force) and thwart Apocalypse's future, he naturally just went by "Cable."

Cable will get his own series once again in Spring 2017, as part of the big ResurrXion relaunch. More details, including creative teams and additional series, are expected soon.
