Marvel's Inhumans Won't Feature Black Bolt's Iconic Costume

If you were hoping Marvel's Inhumans would show Black Bolt slipping into his iconic costume, prepare to be disappointed. The TV/IMAX hybrid series is set to debut later this year, and the ABC project will see Anson Mount play the kingly hero. Just, don't expect to see the actor don Black Bolt's usual suit.

Earlier this year, ScreenRant had a chance to speak with Mount about his Inhumans gig, and the actor opened up about his character's costume. The actor admitted his live-action costume was a more grounded take on Black Bolt's usual attire. So, sorry - there will be no tuning fork involved.

"Dude, one of the tricks of this kind of adaptation from the graphic novel world to a live-action is to, you have to ground it," Mount explained. "You have to ground it in a way that makes these characters more accessible to a viewing audience rather than a reading audience. It's a colder medium. They are not participating. Even if the novel is graphic, it's still a hotter medium."

For fans of the Inhumans, the note about Black Bolt's costume will come as a blow. The character is one of the most popular members of the troupe, and fans have been wanting to see Mount don a more comic-accurate costume for Black Bolt since photos of him in-character dropped. However, given the series' showrunner, it is not too surprising to see Black Bolt step away from his normal get-up. After all, Scott Buck had Iron Fist do the same for his standalone Netflix series.

Black Bolt's live-action uniform is an approachable look for fans who are unfamiliar with the Inhumans. The hero looks to be wearing a stylized leather suit instead of a capped black-and-white bodysuit topped with a strange tuning fork. The character still has a lightning bolt pattern etched into his wardrobe, and he does still lean into darker colors. But, beyond that, there are few crossovers between Black Bolt's MCU costuming and his comic book appearances.

Hopefully, Marvel Entertainment will change Black Bolt's gear should the Inhumans get a second season. Fans will really be missing the tuning fork by that point.
