New Doctor Strange Character Posters Feature Ancient One, Mordo, and Kaecilius

The second round of character posters for Doctor Strange were released by Marvel Studios this morning, to go with the second round of embargo lifts from the set visit. The new character posters feature The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and the villain of the film, Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen). The up-close looks show us clearly how Kaecilius was once a Master of the Mystic Arts alongside the others, and feature the way the world is bending around all of them.

The posters also include very clear looks at the reaches of outer space in the background, intimating that the movie might be heading away from Earth, and not just into other dimensions. It's an intriguing prospect, and not something that was hinted at or revealed on the set visit.

The Ancient One has been a source of casting controversy, as the character in the pages of Marvel Comics is traditionally a Tibetan male - two things Tilda Swinton obviously is not. During the set visit, it was revealed that they're treating "The Ancient One" as a title that is passed down, similarly to the title Sorcerer Supreme that Doctor Strange has passed to others in the comics. Swinton plays a Celtic Ancient One, but the multicultural nature of the Masters of Mystic Arts and their trainees is heavily addressed and highlighted in the film.

For example, you have Master Karl Mordo. He's joined by other Masters like Jericho Drumm (the future Brother Voodoo), Tina Minoru (mother of Nico Minoru from Runaways, in development as a series at Hulu), and Wong (reinvented for the film as a Master and mentor to Doctor Strange, instead of the "Manservant" title he has held for most of his comicbook career).

Kaecilius, an ex-member of their order, serves as the primary antagonist, though there have been more than a couple of hints that someone - perhaps the Dread Dormammu - is lurking in the background, pulling his strings.
