Nick Fury Reportedly Co-Starring In Captain Marvel

It has been a few years since fans saw Nick Fury parade about the MCU, but the mysterious SHIELD director hasn't been forgotten. Samuel L. Jackson last played Nick Fury in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so he is due for a comeback. And, now, new reports are suggesting the spy will make a comeback with Captain Marvel.

Over on Twitter, Omega Underground's Christopher M. got fans buzzing about Jackson's reported return. The writer posted a short blurb on social media which nodded to Captain Marvel and the start of its principal photography.

"Looks like [Samuel Jackson] will indeed be co-starring with [Brie Larson] in Captain Marvel," the tweet reads. "Expected to begin shooting on January 8th in ATL."

So far, there is no confirmation from either Jackson's camp or Marvel about the report. If Jackson is meant to be in Atlanta for shooting at the start of January, it would be easy to connect the actor to Captain Marvel. After all, it has been quite some time since Nick Fury appeared in the MCU, and Jackson does have a couple more Marvel appearances contracted to him.

Of course, Captain Marvel may not be the first film to house Nick Fury following Avengers: Age of Ultron. Back in May, reports surfaced that Jackson was expected to film for Avengers: Infinity War during a Scotland shoot. The Scottish site Chronicle Live wrote that an insider told them Jackson was expected to film briefly for the Marvel flick. Captain Marvel is also rumored to appear in the next Avengers movie, so the pair may meet for the first time in Infinity War before reuniting in Captain Marvel later on.

For now, fans will have to keep a close eye on Captain Marvel updates as they emerge. With San Diego Comic Con coming up, Marvel diehards are hoping to get updates on the project before it enters production next year. If the event happens to detail Jackson's bit in the female-led superhero flick, fans shouldn't be too surprised now.

Brie Larson will reportedly debut as Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) in Avengers: Infinity War before headline her solo film in 2019. Marvel brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck of Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind to oversee the film. With directors in place and a lead star already cast, more filming updates should soon be released. Captain Marvel currently has a 3.79 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings.

Next up for Marvel is Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7, 2017 followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
