Ryan Reynolds Asked Fans For Input On Next Deadpool Movie

Today news broke that Deadpool 2 lost its director.

Tim Miller, the first time live-action director from Blur Studios who pushed long and hard, even possibly leaking test footage, to get the first Deadpool movie made, quit the sequel over creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

Specific details about the creative differences between Miller and Reynolds have not been revealed, but a tweet by Reynolds this morning may hint at some of what the contention was about.

Miller's departure from Deadpool 2 took place Friday night, according to reports. This morning, prior to news of Miller's departure being made public, Reynolds tweeted out a poll. The tweet read, "I need your input on where we should set the climactic sequence for the next Deadpool film." Both options to vote in the poll were "A bridge."

After the news of Miller quitting Deadpool 2 surfaced and this tweet began to get some additional attention, Reynolds deleted it. Was this a jab at Miller over one of their "creative differences?"

Fans of Deadpool will remember that a bridge was used as a prominent location in the film. This is pure speculation, but perhaps Miller wanted to return to a similar setting for the climax of Deadpool 2?

Either way, Miller's departure from Deadpool 2 makes his tongue-in-cheek directorial credit in Deadpool's opening credits sequence sting a little more than it was likely intended to.

Miller leaving Deadpool 2 feels like breaking up the band. Miller, Reynolds, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had been trying to get Deadpool made for more than five years, but the poor reception for Reynolds' debut as a version of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine made it a hard sell to Fox. The huge fan reaction to leaked CGI Deadpool test footage in 2014, footage that Miller is rumored to have leaked himself, put development back on track. It seemed that this group underdogs had finally gotten their way, and the box office take certainly backed that up.

Miller's departure will certainly be felt in Deadpool 2. He brought a unique directorial style to Deadpool. No matter how talented and capable Deadpool 2's new director turns out to be, it is not a style that is likely to be replicated.

Deadpool 2 will see the Merc with a Mouth return for another hilarious misadventure. The sequel is said to introduce Cable, the time-travelling mutant X-Men and X-Force character who frequently partners with and plays straight man to Deadpool.

The film is also said to introduce the mutant mercenary, and Cable's love interest, Domino. Reports suggest Fox is narrowing their casting search for Domino, and the short list of actresses include MacKenzie Davis, Lizzy Caplan, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
