The Defenders Showrunner Details The Show's Street-Level Story

Today, Marvel fans were treated to an in-depth look at Netflix's next superhero title. With Iron Fist having debuted earlier in the year, Marvel's The Defenders is slated to premiere this fall with an all-star cast. The show will see Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage team up to fight against a threat which promises to take down New York. A brand-new trailer for the show was released, showing off the team's violent chemistry. And, now, the miniseries' showrunner is talking about detailing the show's raucous tone.

In an interview with Forbes, Marco Ramirez shed light on how the Defenders team compares to the Avengers. The lead writer said if the latter group were The Beatles, then the Defenders would be The Ramones.

"The Defenders has the street-level stuff that everyone loved about the other shows," Ramirez stressed.

"It's about a bunch of strong-willed people who are very happy to work independently but realize they have to work together and that they are much stronger together."

Continuing, Ramirez went on to talk about how difficult it was to bring the four Hell's Kitchen vigilantes into one cohesive story. "That was a great creative challenge because all four characters are so independent and have their own storylines and unique drives," he explained.

"It was quite a journey to keep them all very involved and active at every point."

Watching the trailer for The Defenders, it is easy to see how different the heroes are from one another. Luke Cage and Danny Rand are shown butting heads, and the former vigilante can't be too pleased when Iron fist uses his mystical powers against him. Matthew Murdock and Jessica Jones also clash when the latter finds herself represented by the blind lawyer after a run-in with the law. Clearly, the show will pick apart all these tense knots when the series debuts, and fans are interested to see how the ragtag group can save New York in a way the Avengers never could.

Marvel's The Defenders was developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
