The Gifted: First Look At Blink Revealed

Fox dropped a teaser that not only confirmed the title of the in-production X-Men pilot—it also revealed that it's been picked up to a series order.

Marvel's The Gifted will be overseen by showrunner Matt Nix with the first episode being directed by Bryan Singer and premiering later this year.

The series will focus on a family on the run with their mutant children as the government cracks down on people with powers via the Sentinel program. But the show is also going to feature a group of beloved mutants in supporting roles who will help the family in their attempts to keep the children safe.

A few characters with mutant abilities were shown in the brief clip, including the mutant Blink played by Jamie Chung. The snipped reveals her character opening a portal, but it's a quick shot in the short video that you might have missed it upon first watch.

Blink debuted in the X-Men comics during the Phalanx Covenant storyline, created by Joe Madureira and Scott Lobdell, though she quickly died after her first appearance.

But the character's most famous incarnation came in the Age of Apocalypse event, where the pink skinned mutant played a significant role. She would then go on to lead the team of interdimensional exploring, multiverse saving Exiles.

She also appeared in X-Men: Days Of Future Past as portrayed by Fan Bingbing, but due to timeline shenanigans they storytellers can explain that this is a different version of the character.

Blink stands to play a significant role in the new series, which we should expect to learn more about when the official teaser is fully released on May 15.

The Gifted was developed by Matt Nix who wrote the series' pilot episode. X-Men movies veteran Bryan Singer will direct. Nix and Singer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory, and Jeph Loeb will all serve as executive producers. The pilot stars Redford, Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Jamie Chung, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Emma Dumont, Percy Hynes White, and Coby Bell.

The Gifted will be the second X-Men television project to enter production following the drama Legion which has been renewed for a second season.
