Thor: Ragnarok: How Thor Gets To Sakaar Revealed

Actor Mark Ruffalo previously said that he would love to make a movie based on the popular Planet Hulk storyline. He's finally getting his wish, but it's going to happen as a part of Thor: Ragnarok.

In the original story, Hulk crashes on a planet called Sakaar where many different aliens are enslaved and forced to do battle against each other in a gladiatorial arena. So now the question for the movie is, how the heck does Thor end up there?

We spoke with Marvel Studios producer Brad Winderbaum about the new movie when we visited the set of Thor: Ragnarok earlier this year, and we had to ask him how Thor arrives on the same planet as his bud the Hulk in what should be a very cosmic coincidence.

"Basically there's any number of ways that one can end up on Sakaar," Winderbaum said. "And a lot of times if someone- the idea is that if someone is using a wormhole to travel from Point A to Point B in the cosmos but there's some sort of failure and you go off the route, you're going to get spat out [on Sakaar]."

We already saw a hint of wormhole technology going awry in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, giving us our first look at the Watchers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, the Marvel cosmos are expanding even further.

"[And with the] Bifröst being essentially a teleportation wormhole mechanism, without going into great detail, something goes horribly wrong in an amazing sequence, and [Thor] gets spat out."

Crashing onto Sakaar, he comes into contact with the person who imprisons him — but they're also the key to his eventual freedom.

"And one of the first people he meets there is this bounty hunter," Winderbaum revealed. "A nameless bounty hunter named SR-142, who is Valkyrie."

But how did Valkyrie and the Hulk end up there? Well, that's a whole different story.

We'll learn more about the journey to Sakaar when Thor: Ragnarok premieres in theaters on November 3.
