Fans are eager to see the Avengers: Infinity War footage shown at Disney's D23 Expo and San Diego Comic Con but it looks like they're going to have to continue their wait longer than they're going to like.

Co-director of Avengers: Infinity War Joe Russo revealed as much during a conversation with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic Con.

"All I can say is that when the footage comes out we want it to be exactly right so we are taking our time and working on that footage because, as you can imagine, the level of visual effects in this footage are unprecedented," Russo said. "There are certain things in this footage at Comic Con that works for a specific Comic Con audience. But when we go wide to a wide audience, we have to make sure that footage works for a wide audience. We're hard at work at that right now. I'm not gonna give a timeline for it because I wanna surprise people. Hopefully they're patient with us."

With two Marvel Studios films on the docket ahead of Avengers: Infinity War, the studio will not be eager to release the footage and overshadow the worthy films of Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. In fact, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige tells ComicBook.com fans should expect the trailer to be released publicly closer to Thor: Ragnarok's release. "I'm not sure," Feige said. "I think it would be late summer, early, mid fall? Ragnarok, probably."

ComicBook.com has a complete and detailed recap of the footage for the billions of fans who were not among the just over 10,000 who have now witnessed it at the D23 Expo or San Diego Comic Con this summer.
