Batman v Superman Defeats Avengers: Age of Ultron in Strong Thursday Night
03/25/2016 11:13 am EDT
The Avengers can take down Ultron, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice overtook Marvel's heroes in Thursday night previews. With $27.7 million on Thursday in the US, Dawn of Justice beat Avengers: Age of Ultron's $27.6 million by just a hair, but a significant one.
It's a huge boost for Warner Bros. in the DC Universe category, where Man of Steel opened to a $9 million Thursday night in 2013. A 300% increase in opening previews has to have the studio happy, despite middling critical response. BvS also beat Furious 7's record for an Easter weekend Thursday night, set last year with $15.8 million.
The film also had a strong opening in China with over $20 million on Friday, after debuting in first place in every early European market opening on Wednesday.
