Earlier this summer, Lisa Spoonauer, who played Caitlin Bree in Kevin Smith's hit comedy Clerks, tragically died at the age of 44. Now, a few months later, her cause of death has been revealed.
According to TMZ, Sponauer died from an accidental overdose of a powerful painkiller, which she was taking to help with several other illnesses that were plaguing her.
The actress was battling cancer, anemia, lung disease, and immune deficiency. All of these contributed to her death.
Spoonauer specifically died of acute and chronic intravenous use of hydromorphone, which is a generic brand of the narcotic, Dilaudid.
Kevin Smith gave Spoonauer her start in acting by casting her as Caitlin Bree in Clerks, back in 1994. She returned to voice the character during the animated series from 2000 to 2002.
Following her death in May, Kevin Smith penned an emotional tribute to Spoonauer on Facebook.
