Colossus Stays In His Metal Form For Entire Deadpool Movie

Colossus is a mutant with the ability to shift from a normal human form to that of organic steel, growing to over seven feet in the process.

When we spoke to Greg Lasalle, Colossus's facial performer in Deadpool, we wondered if this kind of transformation presented any kind of special challenges in the motion capture department. Turns out it wasn't an issue at all.

"Well actually, this film he's only in his metal form," Lasalle says. "I don't know if you knew that. So you won't see a human form of Colossus in Deadpool, only the CG version. So, that actually keeps it simpler for performing.

"What we're able to do with motion-capture is just let the cameras roll, and you don't have to worry about lighting and resetting sets or explosions or anything," he continues. "Just loop the clips, or loop the audio, and then you just lean to [Director Tim] Miller, and Tim is just like: 'Okay, make him more angry No, make him more like he's trying to convince. No, what are we doing here?' That sort of thing. You get to do a dozen or so takes, one after another, you just keep going and going and going and then you're flushing out what's actually going on."

So Colossus will be all metal, all of the time in Deadpool, which may be the safest thing to be given the high concentration of violence in the movie.
