Elizabeth Banks On Whether Rita Repulsa Will Return For Power Rangers Sequel

Fans have eagerly anticipated seeing the Power Rangers once again hit the big screen, with one of the biggest mysteries surrounding Rita Repulsa. The character has more often than not served as the main antagonist for the Rangers, but does that mean she is gong to stick around for a possible sequel?

Repulsa actress Elizabeth Banks recently spoke to Screen Rant about the character, and whether Banks sees her having a future in future films. "I mean, we are just here in this moment right now… *Laughs* Hoping that the fans embrace the movie, hoping people love it, ya know? I think, I mean I love it, and I had so much fun, I think it's really fun, I think it speaks to young people, in a great, fresh way, um I love this cast, so I'm, I'm down for whatever, but I… I don't predict the future, I don't predict the future."

There's a prevailing theory that in this version, Repulsa was actually the former Green Ranger. That would explain why Goldar has a cockpit-like compartment (in the toy version), and why she's wearing an all-green costume as opposed to her televisin outfit. The good news is that fans don't have that much longer to find out.

Power Rangers is currently scoring a 3.59 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings. You can find the official synopsis below.

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

Power Rangers is set to land in theaters on March 24, 2017.
