Flame off! Earlier today, box office projections had Josh Trank's Fantastic Four scooping up a respectable $45M for the weekend, but bad word-of-mouth is traveling fast, estimates have now taken a nosedive.
Variety is now reporting that 20th Century Fox's reboot is headed for a less than fantastic $30M weekend. The film cost the studio $120M to produce and has been panned by critics and even its own director.
Even with all of that, the DOOMed film should inch out a victory at the box office. However, Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation could squeak out a win, as it is expected to bring in $27M for the weekend.
A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
Fantastic Four hits theaters on August 7. You can see where its sequel, and other upcoming comic book movies, will fall here.
