Fast & Furious Writers Reveal Original Ending To Furious 7

When news broke that Paul Walker had tragically passed in a car accident, fans of the action star were floored by the shocking update. The actor had become a staple in theaters thanks to his on-going role in the Fast and the Furious films, and Furious 7 was wrapping up filming at that time. Many wondered how the franchise could move on without Walker involved, but fans were given a touching close to the actor's role thanks to the magic of CGI and clever writing.

Still, there was an ending written for Furious 7 before the film was forced to change course after Walker's death. Now, one of the writers on the film has opened up about the intended ending, and fans have learned Furious 7 was planned to end much the same way.

Recently, Chris Morgan sat down for an interview with Collider, and he spoke about his part on the franchise's seventh film. Here is what the writer had to say about the original end for Furious 7:

"Well, the original ending, if I remember correctly, was our guys end up solving the problem and then kind of becoming — again, going more outlaw, it was sort of a happier ending that kind of ends with the insinuation that they were gonna go off onto this heist or this job. But the core issue for Brian, Paul's character, was this kind of 'Who am I?' sort of question. He's a guy who used to be a cop and in the thick of the action and a racer, and all this stuff, and now he has an amazing wife, a kid and another one on the way. Then he starts to look at his life and it's not a midlife crisis but to say — we said it in the movie, 'I miss the bullets, I miss the action' and the point of the adventure was to show by the end of it that the thing that's truly important to him is his family and being there. It wouldn't mean that he has to stop those adventures or those things, but the context is just a little bit different, he has a different understanding of who he is at his core and what's most important in life."

Of course, Furious 7 was forced to take Walker's role a bit further in the end to give Brian a final ending. The writers came up with the idea to create a scene where Vin Diesel's character is shown driving down a diverging path with Brian. The emotional scene left fans in tears, and Universal Pictures used movie magic to ensure the CGI sequence felt as natural as possible.

In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.
