Today is Sam J. Jones' birthday.

Most fans will remember the veteran actor as Flash Gordon from the pulp hero's self-titled 1980 movie. Jones' turn as Flash earned him an immense cult following, culminating in cameos as himself for several films, including Ted and Ted 2.

Beyond Flash Gordon, Jones has led a busy television career, appearing in Baywatch, Walker, Texas Ranger, Hollywood Safari, and the rebooted (but short-lived) Flash Gordon reboot series.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jones turns 61 Today. Happy Birthday, Sam J. Jones.
