Harry Potter Author J.K. Rowling Wishes James S. Potter Good Luck At Hogwarts
09/01/2015 12:36 pm EDT
Today is Sept. 1, the day that young wizards will be boarding the Hogwarts Express to begin a new year of magical education.
If you pay attention to the Harry Potter timeline and the Potter family tree, you'll know that Harry's oldest son - James S. Potter, born in 2004 - is 11 and should be starting his first year at Hogwarts today.
Creator J.K. Rowling felt obliged to wish young James well on his trip, via Twitter:
James (pictured in the center of the "family photo" above) has only one appearance in the Harry Potter canon. And that's during the flash forward scene that serves as the story's epilogue. In that scene James is already a third year, and teasing one his brothers about possibly being sorted into Slytherin. James' own House is never revealed.
UPDATE: Apparently Rowling is getting live updates from this year's Sorting Hat. She's revealed that James has been sorted into Gryffindor, while Harry Potter's godson, Teddy Lupin, has been named Headboy of Hufflepuff.
Rowling is setting a dangerous precedent here. Fans are now eagerly asking for more information on the current happenings at Hogwarts. If she's not careful, she'll end up live tweeting the entire school year.
