John Wick Fan Film Imagines Villain's Origin

John Wick: Chapter 2 is now in theaters, and if the response from fans is anything to judge by, this franchise, its characters, and rich mythos are going to continue to expand and grow. There's already talk of a John Wick comic book series, as well as possible TV series, covering anything from the legendary hitman's continuing adventures, to his origin story.

Indeed, the John Wick brand is growing so fast that fans are now adding to the mythos - case in point: filmmaker Paul Drechsler-Martell's new fan film, John Wick Origins: Kirill.

If you don't recognize the name, Kirill was the bodyguard protector of Russian crime boss Viggo Tarssov's (Michael Nyqvist) son, Iosef (Alfie Allen). In the first John Wick, Kirill is the most formidable fighter that John Wick faces, and he nearly killed the famed hitman several times before John finally brought him down.

In this origin story, we witness the day that Kirill had to prove himself while out on assignment, making an exchange with some gangsters that intended to double cross Viggo Tarasov, keeping the goods and money for themselves. Unfortunately, the gangsters don't know who it is they're messing with, while we get to see some (unofficial) backstory of how Kirill became a killer equal in deadly skill to John.

The fan film may not have the most sophisticated special effects (the gun shots and general sound is pretty hollow), but it definitely has the John Wick fight choreography down, and it definitely demonstrates the possibilities for an expanded John Wick universe. And, those possibilities look mighty promising...
