Learn To Score Movies From Hans Zimmer Himself

Hans Zimmer, the Academy Award-winning composer behind the music for Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as well as The Lion King, Man of Steel, and dozens of other films that range from the arty and quasi-indie to blockbusters everyone knows, will offer an online course on writing music for film.

Pre-enrollment for Zimmer's class, which will cost $90, is open now on the MasterClass website. The full class, which Variety reports will be composed of about 30 exclusive video lessons, will be available in January 2017.

"My MasterClass is a way for me to show that bold ideas can come from anyone and all you need is a computer to make music. Maybe even just a phone!" Zimmer said in a statement. "I hope my MasterClass helps people see they just need to break the rules and move their ideas forward. The rest is just technicalities."

MasterClass has been attracting a not-insignificant number of show business luminaries over the last year, with Aaron Sorkin, Werner Herzog, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey, Christina Aguilera, James Patterson, and Reba McEntire among the big names to offer courses in their area of expertise.

The $90 enrollment fee allows students to have access to the video tutorials for life, although they do not appear to be downloadable -- which stands to reason, since part of the premium pricing comes from the fact that these are exclusive videos that theoretically shouldn't just end up dumped on YouTube.

It also appears as though once a MasterClass is online, it is available indefinitely, so unlike most other online classes with a fairly short window of availability, these appear to be evergreen once they exist.

Among the backers for MasterClass is Robert Downey, Jr.'s Downey Ventures.
