According to Deadline, Fox is making a deal to bring Len Wiseman (Underwold, Total Recall) back to the Die Hard franchise to direct the sixth installment, which will be sort of a prequel.
Deadline reports that Bruce Willis will be back as hard-to-kill cop John McClane so that he can "bookend a story line that will be set much of the action in 1979, when McClane was a cop in gritty New York City and showing how he became a die hard kind of guy."
Wiseman directed the fourth installment in the franchise: 2007's Live Free or Die Hard. It grossed $383.5M at the worldwide box office, a record for the series. Deadline adds, "Wiseman came up with a new angle that he pitched to [Lorenzo] di Bonaventura, who's staying involved here and will produce with the director."
At the moment, Fox is in search of a screenwriter to pen the script.
The last film in series, 2013's A Good Day To Die Hard was poorly received by critics and audiences alike, but it did clear $300M at the global box office. However, it turned its worst domestic performance with only $67M, which means 78% earnings come from overseas.
