Marvel's Kevin Feige Says We've Seen The Captain America: Civil War Split Coming

Captain America: Civil War is set to split the Marvel Cinematic Universe in two, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says attentive fans should have noticed the crack by now.

"We've seen it coming," Feige told Disney twenty-three. "The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them."

Captain America and Iron Man have only appeared together in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and both films had tense moments between the heroes, with the new nearly getting in a superhero fist fight in Avengers and then conflicting on a more philosophical level in Age of Ultron.

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
