New Pirates Of The Caribbean Featurette Confirms Will Turner's Son

Ever since the first trailer was released for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was released, fans of the franchise noticed one of the new characters bore a striking resemblance to a former star. Many thought that Henry, played by Brenton Thwaites, was the son of Will and Elizabeth Turner.

If you recall, after the credits of At World's End, Will resurfaced after ten years as captain of the Flying Dutchman. Elizabeth was waiting for him on a hillside, with a young boy that was revealed to be their son.

This week, Disney revealed a new featurette from the upcoming film, and it actually confirmed that Henry was indeed Will's long lost son.

As Brenton Thwaites begins to speak about the movie (at the 1:00 mark of the video above), his title card appears on the screen. Instead of being called Henry - as all of the promotional materials have done - he was referred to as Henry Turner.

This explains why the character looks so much Will Turner. This also helps clarify Orlando Bloom's remarks a couple of years ago. The actor had mentioned the new movie being a 'soft reboot' for the series, and the plot focusing on Turner's relationship to his son.

With this confirmation, the potential future for the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise has gotten a whole lot clearer.

Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack. Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.
