The Rock's Rampage Movie Gets A Working Title

It wouldn't be a year at the cinema without several projects from The Rock, and 2018 will be just as action-packed as 2017 is turning out to be. That's when The Rock will team up with Brad Peyton on the film adaptation of the popular Midway video game Rampage, and now the film has a working title.

In the latest issue of Production Weekly, the project's working title is listed as "R19". What that means is anyone's guess, but once more information comes out about the film's plot and characters, it will probably make a touch more sense. Peyton recently spoke about his vision for the film, a film that centers around three monsters destroying everything in their path.

"With Rampage, we are using our love of the original game as our inspiration. Then we're going to build a movie, like San Andreas, that is really going to surprise people in what it delivers. It's going to be a lot more emotional, a lot scarier and a lot more real than you'd expect. So you look at that original concept about a lab that affects these animals and makes them rampage, and that's the nugget. If they called me tomorrow to do Call of Duty, I wouldn't want to play any of the Call of Duty games. I'd have to come up with something that deserves to be its own thing. That's where a lot of these movies can go wrong."

The graphics of the video game versions have often been more cartoony and bright in nature, but it's encouraging to see Peyton go a slightly more horror route. If the scale and action are anything like San Andreas, Peyton seems to have the right balance to be able to pull something like this off.

As for the characters, the Rock previously threw out one nugget about his character, saying "She blew us away w/ her take on her character. So smart, Strong fit w/ my character who headed up an anti-poaching unit in Rwanda." That seems to indicate he might have knowledge of where these characters originally came from, but time will tell.

Rampage is directed by Brad Peyton with Ryan Condal, Carlton Cuse, and Ryan Engle on writing duties. The project is executive produced by Jeffrey Fierson, Dany Garcia, and Peyton, with Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and John Rickard serving as producers.

Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Marley Shelton, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Naomie Harris, Jake Lacy, Jack Quaid, Breanne Hill, Matt Gerald, P.J. Byrne, Levi Bowling, and Allyssa Brooke.

Rampage is slated for release on April 20, 2018.
