When the announcement came that Tom Holland had been cast as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and beyond, nobody was more surprised to hear it than Holland himself.
"I was actually having a really bad day, and I found out on Instagram," Holland said. "I was in my bed, I was scrolling through Instagram, and Marvel had posted a photo of Spider-Man. It said 'Go to our website, and find out who it is.'"
He said after some trepidation, "I opened the screen, and then it said my name, and I went nuts."
You can check it out below.
Interesting enough, in spite of the Spider-Man franchise being a Marvel/Sony co-production and a revival of one of Sony's most valuable franchises, Holland said he was hired by Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6th, 2016.
