Has The Big Villain In Transformers: The Last Knight Been Revealed?

06/02/2017 02:15 pm EDT

There's a lot of mystery surrounding the plot of the fifth Transformers movie.

Director Michael Bay established a writers room filled with talented minds to help establish the lore and mythos behind the Transformers cinematic universe in preparation of Transformers: The Last Knight, mining the franchise's history to propel it into the future.

And though we knew the latest Transformers film would reveal Earth's history with Cybertron, bringing back the Dinobots while exploring humankind's early alliance with the Transformers during medieval times, we only recently learned the film would also bring in the Quintessons as revealed by the latest trailer.

It looks like the film is bringing even more lore from franchise history as Hasbro just unveiled one of the film's biggest threats in the form of a new Combiner referred to as Infernocus.

The 5-bot Combiner consists of Infernocon demons named Skulk, Rupture, Thrash, Gorge, and Gulg, who are described as protectors of the mysterious sorceress named Quintessa.

Combiners are a major part of series lore, recently playing a huge role in the IDW Transformers comic book crossover event the Combiner Wars. Consisting of smaller bots that all make different parts of a whole, the Combiners are considered super weapons in the Transformers universe and usually have their own personalities when in their assembled forms.

It will be interesting to learn how the Infernocon Combiners play into the war between Transformers and humans on planet Earth, and how Optimus Prime plays into the conflict. It appears that the Combiners might play into the first Transformers on earth and their alliance with the old knights in battle, as more toys reveal the three bots combine to form Dragonstorm.

The fact that Bay and the new writers room is continuing to mine some of the most beloved aspects in Transformers lore is certainly encouraging for the future of the franchise, especially if Bay plans on leaving the director's chair after the latest film.
