Zack Snyder Defends Man Of Steel Destruction, Impact On Bruce Wayne Revealed

What is it that turns good men cruel? Well, Ben Affleck's iteration of Bruce Wayne can tell you -- and the words are being put in his mouth, at least in part, by Zack Snyder, who commented on the massive property damage and loss of life at the end of his blockbuster Man of Steel in a new interview.

As part of the big Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice write-up at Entertainment Weekly, Snyder told the magazine, "That's the thesis of Superman for me, that you can't just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences."

"One of the things I liked was Zack's idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings," added Batman actor Ben Affleck. "And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne's building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event."

Comparing a desire for verisimilitude to his work on Watchmen, Snyder said that he thought it was important to show the consequences of these massive, earth-shaping battles.

"There are other superhero movies where they joke about how basically no one's getting hurt," Snyder says. "That's not us. What is that message? That's it's okay that there's this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone?"
