Margot Robbie Reacts To Controversial 'Vanity Fair' Cover Story

In Vanity Fair's August cover story, the magazine declared it to be the "summer of Margot Robbie." Writer Rich Cohen did a profile on the 26-year-old actress for the magazine, but shortly after the article hit the web, it was met with "outrage, cries of sexism, and overall puzzlement," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Robbie, who stars in summer of 2016 films Suicide Squad and Legend of Tarzan, recently dished on the Vanity Fair interview about her reaction after reading the article. "I remember thinking that was a really odd interview," Robbie recalled while talking to The Project. "The tone of this is really weird. Like, I don't really know what he's trying to get at or play at."

Fans of Robbie's, writers, and Australians all vented their frustrations about the article on Twitter and slammed Cohen for his descriptions of Robbie. Cohen calls her beautiful "in a minor, knock-around key, a blue mood, a slow dance." The writer also received backlash for the way he characterized Robbie's home country, Australia, when he declared that the country is "a throwback, which is why you go there for throwback people."

Robbie admitted that she was surprised by the reaction to the article and said that she "didn't expect there was going to be an uproar about it at all." She continued saying: "I've read far more offensive, far more sexist, insulting, derogatory, disgusting things on a daily basis. I don't know, maybe I'm desensitized to it now."

She was actually thrilled by the response from her fans, and especially from her fellow Australians.

"I had this like bit of Aussie pride, where I was like, 'Don't mess with the Aussies,'" Robbie stated while laughing. "Don't you mess with the Aussies. Look at what happens when you mess with Australia."
