What a match.

After a series of heavy impact moves and tons of signature finishers, WWE's Lunatic Fringe Dean Ambrose retained his WWE Championship against his former Shield brothers, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

Throughout the match, it appeared that Reigns would be able to pull the ultimate upset and take back his championship, but Ambrose was able to hit one last Dirty Deeds on the returning superstar to pick up the pinfall.

Battleground was Reigns' first night back on WWE programming since his suspension after last month's Money In The Bank pay-per-view. He was booed almost right out of the building. The WWE fans of Washington, DC let their voices be heard as they booed Reigns constantly throughout the match.

There was even a moment where Rollins and Ambrose teamed up to take out Reigns as they performed a move they once did as the Shield and Reigns right through the Spanish announce table.

After the match, the SmackDown! roster headed to the ring to celebrate with their champion, which was weird as we saw the Usos lift Ambrose on their shoulders, and as Roman's actual family took brand alliance over blood.

I digress.

Having Ambrose retain the WWE Championship leaves Raw without a world championship of any sort....for now. Is tomorrow night the resurrection of the World Heavyweight Championship?
