Marvel's The Punisher Director Reveals Premiere Date

Netflix has had a busy year with its Marvel series, and the site's schedule is only expected to get busier. After having released Iron Fist a couple months back, Netflix will release The Defenders before its Punisher series gets off the ground. No release date has been attached to The Punisher as of yet, but it looks like one of the show's director has let it slips. Whoops!

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dearbhla Walsh spoke about her recent television projects including The Punisher. When asked about her transition into stateside projects after having working in the U.K., Walsh let the Punisher tidbit slip.

"[I've directed] one other time that hasn't been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it's not airing until November," she said.

"I directed that in New York and edited in L.A., but this was my first directing experience in lovely Canada."

So, if Walsh is correct, then it looks like Frank Castle will blaze back onto Netflix come November. The premiere will see The Punisher hit the Internet a few months after The Defenders has its debut on August 18th. Iron Fist premiered back In March, so it looks like The Punisher will get an accelerated release compared to its Defenders counterpart.

So far, there has been no word on The Punisher series from Netflix or Marvel in regard to publicity. This week, a poster for the series did hit the Internet accidentally when a cast member shared the image. Jason R. Moore, who played Curtis Hoyle in The Punisher, tweeted out a picture of the secretive poster - but it lacked a release date. Now, fans can expect Netflix to roll out the series come November, so fan better have an excuse to ditch Thanksgiving meals early to binge the series if need be.

Marvel's The Punisher is being developed by Steve Lightfoot for Netflix. Lightfoot will serve as showrunner.

Bernthal will star alongside Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson. Production on the first season of The Punisher commenced in October 2016 and wrapped back in April 2017.

The Punisher is based on the Marvel Comics character created by Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr., and Ross Andru. The character debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974. Originally meant to be a Spider-Man villain, the Punisher's brutality resonated with fans and turned him into a cult classic. The vigilante has since starred in several series including three live-action movies: one starring Dolph Lundgren in 1989, another starring Thomas Jane in 2004, and Punisher: War Zone with Ray Stevenson in 2004
