Daredevil Prompts Audio Descriptions On Netflix
04/14/2015 04:43 pm EDT
Netflix is expanding their existing accessibility options to include audio descriptions for the visually impaired. Appropriately, the first title to receive this option will be their latest original series, which stars a blind superhero, Marvel's Dardevil.
Audio narration will provide descriptions of what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes
Daredevil first premiered without the audio narration, an irony that visually impaired audiences did not appreciate. This sparked a social media campaign under the hashtag #Dare2Describe, which seems to have gotten enough attention for Netflix to take initiative on the issue.
Netflix is going one step further. The option will soon be added to other Netflix original series, including House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Marco Polo.
Eventually, Netflix expects the option for audio narration to be available for all of their major original series, as well as select other series and films, across all viewing devices.
Marvel's Daredevil is now streaming on Netflix.
