DC Entertainment, in conjunction with Mattel, is launching a new line of toys titled DC Super Hero Girls. The line will be exclusively available at Target starting in March, and will feature an array of iconic DC heroines.

The initial line will include Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Bumblebee, Harley Quinn, Batgirl, and Poison Ivy, with more to come down the line. Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment, had a bit more to say about their hopes for the line.

"It's time for girls to get their capes on and envision themselves as strong, powerful and connected beings at the center of their own superhero story, and DC Super Hero Girls provides a brand-new, robust universe to do just that," said Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and President & Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The toys, dolls, action figures and books that are rolling out at Target this spring, combined with the fun animated series currently online, feature stories of empowerment, inspiration and optimism that are relatable to girls. This program is changing the face of superhero culture, and we are really proud of that."

The animated series Diane mentioned will be televised exclusively through Boomerang, with a television special coming later this year to help launch the line.

I'm all for giving kids options at the store, and having some superheroes added to the Barbie aisle is always a good thing. It should also be pointed out just how great these costumes are. Fun redesigns that are just reminiscent of the comic versions enough, without any over-sexualization typically found in, well, pretty much anything lately.
