Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 9: Battle Of The Bastards

A new episode of Game of Thrones, titled "Battle of the Bastards," airs tonight!

From Ned Stark being beheaded in the first season to Tyrion Lannister's heroics in Season 2's Battle of Blackwater Bay to the Starks getting slaughtered at The Red Wedding in Season 3 to Jon Snow defending Castle Black and The Wall from The Wildings in the fourth season to Drogon rescuing Daenerys in Season 5 from the Sons of the Harpy, the ninth of episode has typically been the crème de la crème of each Game of Thrones season. Will that streak continue with Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton's long-awaited showdown? We sure hope so!

Since HBO chose not to release an official description for the episode, it is anyone's guess how it will all play out. What we do know about the episode, which was directed by Miguel Sapochnik ("Hardhome"), it is the biggest battle sequence the show has ever had. To pull it off, the episode required 600 crew members, 500 extras, 70 horses, 160 tons of gravel (added traction to a muddy field for the horses), 25 stuntmen and women, 25 shooting days, and 4 camera crews.

HBO is so proud of the episode that they have submitted it for Emmy consideration in most of the top categories: Writing (David Benioff and Dan Weiss), Directing (Miguel Sapochnik), Editing, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, and Hairstyling/Makeup.

Game of Thrones, "Battle of the Bastards," airs Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
