Ashleigh Murray Reveals Whether Riverdale's Josie and the Pussycats Will Ever Sing the Cartoon Theme

Tonight's episode of Riverdale focused heavily on its interpretation of the iconic band Josie and the Pussycats. While the show has seen The Pussycats perform various songs, including tonight's cover of Donna Summers' 'I Feel Love', there is one song tied to the band that people have been asking about.

When asked about whether or not The Pussycats will sing the self-titled theme from their 70s cartoon series, Josie McCoy herself, Ashleigh Murray, said fans shouldn't expect to hear it on Riverdale in the near future.

"We didn't get to get to the theme song this season. We really wanted to but... please, if we get a season 2! That's absolutely on the table."

According to Murray, there was a brief moment where the theme song could have been sung in Riverdale's first season, but it was scrapped due to something in the episode's plot.

"They were toying around with it for the final episode, but because they had to change the way the story is ending, we're holding it off, in case we get to come back and start shooting in the summer."

With Riverdale's ratings faring pretty good for The CW, and a recent development deal being inked between Warner Bros. and Archie Comics to make shows off of the comics' other properties, a second season feels almost inevitable at this point. And for fans of The Pussycats and their insanely catchy theme song, there just became one more reason to root for the show's renewal.
