Sally Field Laughs Off Aunt May Spinoff Movie Rumor

In November, Latino Review posted a rumor that Sony was working on an Aunt May spinoff movie that would've focused on her younger days and given her a Peggy Carter-like backstory. It seemed absurd, but then again Sony had tinkered with the Spider-Man universe before, so it wasn't completely out of the question. Of course, Sony later dismissed it as a "silly rumor."
Sally Field, who played Aunt May in Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man films has now commented on those spinoff rumors. "Aunt May spinoff? And make her the lead? What would you do with her?" Field told The Huffington Post at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
"She has no special powers whatsoever," Sally added. "She was a housewife waiting for the kids to come home. I think they did that: It was called 'The Donna Reed Show.'"
I'm glad Sally was able to laugh it off. And now that Spider-Man is headed to the Marvel cinematic universe I think we can write off any Aunt May spinoff films for forever.
Next Spider-Man film will arrive July 28, 2017. Rumor has it that Drew Goddard ("Cabin In The Woods") will direct and it will be titled The Spectacular Spider-Man.
