5 Comics You Should Read This Week

It can be a bit intimidating at the comic book store these days, with swaths of new books flooding the new release rack every Wednesday. The good news is you don't have to go it alone, and while there are plenty of things to keep your attention this week, here are the essentials you'll want to hit.

By no means is this an "only" list, as there are a bounty of great books coming out on Wednesday. This is more of a "list of what not to miss", books you might want to set aside some time and wallet allotment for. This week's list has books from DC, Marvel, and Oni Press, but there are plenty of great Dark Horse, BOOM! Studios, and Valiant to enjoy this week as well.

Before you see the week's top books though, make sure to check out a few other notable books before you leave, especially if you have some cash to burn.

All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy #1 is written by Gerry Duggan. The official description is located below.

Green Lanterns #22 is written by Sam Humphries with art by Ronan Cliquet. The description is below.

Batman #22

Part three of "The Button" is here, hopefully providing some additional answers to Batman and The Flash about who is behind this and why they've taken years from the DC Universe. This series will have big implications for the rest of the DC Universe, so you don't want to miss it.

Secret Empire #1

The Hydra takeover started in Secret Empire #0, but issue #1 shows just how far they've come since, and it's a bit disheartening for fans of the Marvel Universe. The lengths that they will go to to protect are even worse.

The Damned

A supernatural tale with a lead who dies constantly set in the Prohibition era is certainly a potent combination, so this is a great chance to hop onboard with a new ongoing series.

The Damned is written by Cullen Bunn with art by Brian Hurtt.

In a Prohibition-era world where demonic princes pull the strings that make crime families dance, Eddie is a mortal with two things working for him. First of all, he can't die. Well, he can and does, quite often, but he doesn't stay down for long. Second, Eddie runs the Gehenna Room, a nightclub with a strict "no demons allowed" policy. But blessings and curses don't look all that different these days, and failing to tell the two apart can get a guy killed—over and over again in Eddie's case. So when one of Eddie's old pals shows up seeking sanctuary, Eddie knows he's in for a double-cross, and that means walking the line between salvation and damnation once more.

Injustice 2 #1

Injustice 2 is right around the corner, and now you can see how the universe has changed since Superman was dethroned. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the danger is gone, as everyone will soon learn.

Jean Grey #1

Life has changed a great deal for Jean Grey since coming from the past into a rather volatile future. Now that they aren't fighting for mutant kind's survival, Jean has settled into a new lead role with the team, but some things are hard to escape. That includes the Phoenix Force, but Jean is going to give it her best shot.
