You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family. That adage, however, doesn't apply to the world of entertainment.

For the upcoming Aquaman solo film, which is currently being filmed in Australia and directed by James Wan (The Conjuring), Jason Momoa has two of his childhood idols portraying Arthur Curry's parents.

Temuera Morrison, the 56-year-old New Zealand actor best known for portraying bounty hunter JangoFett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), is playing his human father and lighthouse keeper, Thomas Curry. Queen Atlanna, his mother and the Queen of Atlantis, is being played by Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman (Batman Forever, The Hours).

Yesterday, on the set of the film, a cheerful Momoa gave his on-screen father a very warm hug. "[Meeting] one of my idols," Momoa wrote. "I'm so honored and proud to be working with Temuera Morrison A true inspiration for me growing up trying to become an actor."

"His name is Arthur Curry, he's the son of a lighthouse keeper and the Queen of Atlantis," DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns said in a Justice League featurette. "He starts to develop these powers. He can breathe under water. He can communicate with sea life. He's very strong." He later adds, "He grows up not really feeling like he belongs in either world. So he's man trapped between two worlds, but has a responsibility to protect both of them."

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller)—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

The cast also features Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J. K. Simmons as James Gordon, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West.

The film is being directed by Zack Snyder, based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio

Justice League will open in theaters on November 17, 2017.
