Joss Whedon Called Marvel's Kevin Feige About Batgirl

Joss Whedon contributed to the meteoric rise of Marvel Studios with the first two epic crossover films featuring the team ups of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron were hits at the box office and broke many records, setting the bar for what superhero movies could achieve in the modern era of filmmaking. Whedon directed the culmination of years of planning and hardwork, and the results continue to pay dividends.

But before Whedon ever dipped his toe in the Marvel Universe, he was supposed to make a Wonder Woman movie for DC and Warner Bros. Those plans never panned out, and a new Wonder Woman from Patty Jenkins is imminent. But now Whedon is back at the helm, taking on a project featuring Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl.

Some fans might be upset that he's hopped over the fence and begun working on a DC Film, which seems to lay to rest any tentative plans of going back to Marvel.

However, one person is not upset at Whedon's decision to make the Batgirl movie, and that's Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

As revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, Feige said that Whedon actually contacted him before the decision was made public.

He called. A couple months ago, which he didn't have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him… And we couldn't be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.

While there might be a not-so-friendly rivalry between the comics divisions from time to time, any executive from either company will tell you that a rising tide lifts all boats—a good film from DC means good things for Marvel and vice versa.

It's good to see that there's no bad blood between Feige and Whedon after the director helped create the Marvel empire as it is today. Unless this is all just a mind game and Feige is having severed DC Superhero Girls doll heads anonymously delivered to Whedon's doorstep. Along with a message scrawled in blood "NEVER CROSS THE MOUSE."

But that's probably not happening!

DC Films' next project is Wonder Woman, hitting theaters June 2. Are you excited for the new movie? Let us know with your vote in the Anticipation Rankings below!
