Batman v. Superman Nabs Eight Razzie Nominations

Nominees for the 37th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards have been released, cementing last year's most dubious films as some of the worst to hit theaters. Is it any surprise Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was nominated eight times?

Films like Dirty Grandpa, Independence Day: Resurgence, Gods of Egypt, and Alice: Through the Looking Glass all garnered multiple nominations for various Golden Razzies, but none of these films were nominated more than Bats V. Supes.

In fact, only Zoolander No. 2 received more nominations with nine.

The list of nominees (via THR) were tallied from votes from over 1,000 members of the Razzie voting members, except for the category of Worst Screen Combo.

Batman V. Superman was nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill were nominated), Worse Supporting Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay (Suicide Squad is also nominated).

Affleck is no stranger to the Razzies, having redeemed himself in 2015 for Argo. But it seems like Batman V. Superman is less a sequel to Man of Steel and more a thematic continuation of Gigli.

While the idiom may go "all press is good press," this is the kind of recognition that Warner Bros. and the heads of DC Films may not prefer to receive. And they'd be quick to remind you of their films successful box office numbers. But critical and fan reception to Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad, have both been less than ideal.

Hopefully Justice League and Wonder Woman are spared from the wrath of the Golden Razzies.
