Ben Affleck: "There's Not Enough Money In The World To Make A Mediocre Version Of Batman Worth It"

Back in August 2013, when director Zack Snyder officially cast Ben Affleck to don the cape and cowl in Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, many people were salivating at the thought of the Oscar-winning screenwriter (Good Will Hunting) and Golden Globe-winning director (Argo) eventually writing and directing his own Dark Knight-centric solo film. Now, it's a reality!
On Wednesday, Affleck said The Batman — which he will direct and is co-writing with DCEU co-runner Geoff Johns — is on track to commence filming in spring 2017. On that same day, Warner Bros. creative chief Greg Silverman said The Batman is expected to open in theaters in 2018. However, since Affleck doesn't believe in rushing a film along to meet a window or a date, The Batman could always get pushed back.
Speaking with EW, as part of the magazine's 2016 Entertainers of the Year feature, Ben Affleck provided them with an update on his progress with The Batman. "I'm still working on the script," he shared. "I'm not going to write and direct anything that I don't think is good enough to be made. I'm definitely going to make sure I have something that is special—there's not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it."
EW asked Affleck if his kids are 'psyched that their dad plays Batman.' "They love it," the 44-year-old father of three replied. "My son especiially. He's going to be 5, and he's in full superhero geek mode. He still sort of thinks I might really be Batman. I know he'll realize eventually I have feet of clay, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts."

Justice League will open in theaters on November 17, 2017.
