DCEU Producer Is Confident Ben Affleck Will Play Batman In Matt Reeves Movie

When Ben Affleck took a step back in his involvement on the upcoming standalone Batman movie, the world periled into a panic mode unlike anything before. Suspicions of the Academy Award warning director who was also set to star in the titular role dropping out the film began to swirl and fanboys everywhere lost sleep for days.

Since the day Affleck stepped down as director, War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has stepped in to direct and produce the film, with his producer on Apes Dylan Clark joining the team, as well. As it stands, Affleck is still involved with the production not only as the star but also as the executive producer.

The Batman does not yet have a release date or, actually, anything other than a logo, at this point. Still, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Man of Steel executive producer Charles Roven is confident Affleck will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne for The Batman after his efforts in Justice League.

"I mean, I'm not really involved with The Batman, but from everything… We have a cursory involvement because that character is going to touch us some way," Roven said. "If Ben plays that character it's going to touch some part of what we are doing. But I have no feeling whatsoever except positive that Matt loves Ben and the work that he has done as Batman, and Ben thinks that Matt is a really terrific filmmaker. I have every expectation that they are going to make a movie together."

Still, no hard confirmation from Roven, but enough to continue helping fans drop a little bit of their stress levels over whether or not Affleck will abandon the role. As for the rest of the Justice League actors and other heroes (or anti-heroes) in the DCEU, it sounds like they will be sticking around for a while. Roven was asked how long certain actors are contracted for and it doesn't seem like anyone is running out of options at the studio.

"Well everybody is different, depending on when the deals were made and how many they've done," Roven said. "Ben [Affleck] has done Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League right. Gal has done Wonder Woman, Justice League and Batman v Superman. They all have deals, I'm not exactly sure - I couldn't sit here and tell you this one has so many options left and this one has no options left, or whatever. The great news is that in terms of my best read of the situation, everybody loves the characters they play. This is not just the lead good guys, it's the bad guys as well, or the bad but not evil members of Suicide Squad. I think everybody really likes those characters. I think all of the actors would like to be part of another one."

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K.
