Donald Trump is the President in Legends of Tomorrow's Doomworld

When the Legion of Doom rewrote the history of Earth-1 near the end of last week's episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, one of the changes they made appears to have caused the election of Donald Trump to the U.S. Presidency.

In the main continuity, as seen on Arrow and The Flash, the U.S. has a female President, Susan Brayden (played by Lucia Walters), who had served as the Vice President under an unnamed President played by Jerry Wasserman.

When that President was killed by The Dominators during their invasion of Earth, his unnamed successor took over. In spite of being a female President, she was not President Marsdin, the character played by Lynda Carter who serves as the President on Supergirl's Earth-38.

Of course, the recent revelation that Marsdin is in fact a Durlan -- a member of an alien race of shapeshifters -- may explain why producers didn't want to carry Carter's character over to Earth-1.

...So how do we know Trump has the Presidency on the rebuilt reality of Legends of Tomorrow? Eobard Thawne, a captain of industry and one of the world's most brilliant minds, gets a call from the President early in th eepisode. He's referred to as a "he" multiple times, and at the end of the call, Thawne tells the President, "Best to Mel," a clear reference to Melania Trump, the First Lady.

It isn't clear what, if any, lingering effects of the Doomworld reality will remain when and if the Legends defeat the Legion of Doom and restore reality at the end of next week's finale. It's unlikely Trump will remain President, not out of any commentary on Trump himself but because these shows typically do not use real-world political figures for story reasons.

(Obviously, for instance, you couldn't have had aliens murder Barack Obama or another alien impersonate Trump without courting controversy).

Even over on Powerless, a sitcom that doesn't deal with the same heady themes as the "main" DC shows, the President is Lex Luthor.
