First Look at the Son of Penguin in Batgirl #6

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Batgirl #6, in stores now.

In Batgirl #7, due out next month, Barbara Gordon will return to Burnside only to find it changed -- overrun, bought out, and gentrified...by the estranged son of Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin.

Here's the official pitch for that:

"Son of Penguin" part one! Babs is back in Burnside! But everything's…different-friends, school, even Burnside itself. Batgirl must determine her next steps when she realizes that the shady new tech mogul moving into her neighborhood is none other than the estranged son of the Penguin!

While Batgirl will have to wait until January 25 to meet the character, that's not the case for readers, who got their first glimpse of the young E. Cobblepot in the final pages of today's issue #6.

The issue itself is a bit of a one-off; it features Barbara flying back to Gotham at the end of the arc started in the spring's Batgirl: Rebirth #1 and trying unsuccessfully to relax.

She's sharing the plane with Poison Ivy, after all.

By the time she's safe on the ground, she doesn't even notice another passenger disembarking: E. Cobblepot (according to the personal assistant holding a sign for him), the titular "Son of Penguin."

Given his thin appearance and his tousled hair, it's difficult not to feel like he somewhat resembles the Oswald Cobblepot fans have come to know and love from FOX's Gotham.

Batgirl #6 is available now. You can get a copy at your local comic shop, or buy one digitally on ComiXology.
