Gotham Cast Talks About Watching David Mazouz Grow Up

Regular viewers of Gotham have watched the show's ensemble cast evolve over the past three seasons. And according to several of the show's cast members, there's been something special about watching David Mazouz, who plays the show's young Bruce Wayne, grow up before their eyes.

During a recent panel at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest Nashville, Gotham's Alfred Pennyworth, Sean Pertwee, touched on the evolution of Alfred's relationship with Bruce, as well as the real-life parallel it has had with his relationship with Mazouz.

"You can [only] hope with a young person [that you are able] to communicate with them, and you have to find a medium to do that." Pertwee explained. "We've gone past that stage, and Alfred has had to accept the man he's becoming. Watching [David] grow up, there's no acting required. I'm watching the beautiful soul he's becoming, right before my eyes."

With Mazouz and Gotham's Selina Kyle, Camren Bicondova, set to evolve into their comic book alter-egos in the show's upcoming season, fans can expect to feel that level of pride as well.

Fellow cast member Drew Powell, who plays the recently-evolving Gotham villain Butch Gilzean, echoed that sentiment, praising his young costar's attitude towards essentially growing up onscreen.

"When we first met David he had just turned 13, and now he's 16. 16 and a half." Powell pointed out. "Imagine yourself at 13-16 years old living this life and still being so classy. It's been so much fun to watch [David and Gotham's Selina Kyle, Camren Bicondova] grow up in front of us."

Powell also joked that Mazouz's presence on set has had another positive consequence.

"His college is basically paid for by all of the money we put in the swear jar."

Gotham's origin story continues to unfold, and as the show enters its fourth season, the stakes will be higher than ever! With the Court of Owls decimated, the aftermath of the Tetch virus crippling the city, and every (surviving) villain in Gotham's underworld jockeying for power, Jim Gordon and the GCPD will have their hands full. And that's just the beginning! What threat does Ra's al Ghul pose, and will Penguin regain his title as the King of Gotham? What new villains are in store for season four, and what does Bruce Wayne's season finale reveal mean for Gotham City — and his ultimate destiny?

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as the future Poison Ivy, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, Benedict Samuel as Mad Hatter.
