Gotham: David Mazouz On Hush Doppelganger Theory And Arrow Universe Crossover

The introduction of a Bruce Wayne doppelganger on Gotham has led to rampant speculation from fans of the Fox Batman prequel series.

Some of that speculation involves a DC Comics character known as Hush. In the DC Universe, Hush is actually Tommy Elliott, a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne's who holds a grudge against Bruce because of the time that Bruce's father, Dr. Thomas Wayne, saved Tommy's parents from death after a near-fatal car crash that Tommy himself had orchestrated. Tommy was eager to get his hands on his family inheritance, and even after becoming one of the top surgeons in the country, Tommy never forgot what Dr. Wayne did.

Hush's need for revenge went so far that he had his own appearance surgically altered to become identical to Bruce Wayne and then attempted to take Wayne's place. Could the Gotham doppelganger be Tommy Elliot looking to pull off a similar scheme?

This question was brought to David Mazouz, the actor who plays Bruce Wayne (and his doppelganger) on Gotham, at the Gotham panel at New York Comic Con "I can't say yes or no," Mazouz offered in reply, "but I can say the Hush theory has been connecting those two things, and what I will say is that this Bruce is not completely somebody from the comics but is a mix of Gotham originality and maybe a mix of other theories."

Mazouz was also asked about the ever-present possibility of a crossover with the CW's line of DC Comics superhero programs, this time specifically in reference to Arrow.

"We would all love it, but it isn't our call. I think it would be great. Any crossover – now that the Flash can time travel – I wouldn't mind it."

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
