Gotham: Smile Like You Mean It Recap With Spoilers

Jerome is back! Or at least he's in a tube and coming back. That was the gist of last week's episode of Gotham, which also saw a major shift in Lee's attitude toward Jimbo, and a happy moment for Selina (which means something awful is about to happen). Let's get started, SPOILERS on!

Dwight and his laughing Jerome fanatics infiltrate and head to the storage warehouse that Jerome's being held in (along with other forzen characters awaiting revival), kill a security guard, and get to his body. Dwight is stunned - and starts to laugh.

The police investigate and find a tank all grafittied up. One of the fanatics is still there, bleeding badly, and Jim takes him.

At Wayne Manor, Cole the guy who is harrassing Maria Kyle, comes to Bruce and Alfred and says she owes him $200,000 (not the $100,000 she actually owes). It looks like Bruce is going to do it.

The fanatic, temporarily patched up at Gotham PD, is excited to meet James Gordon. He says Jim can't stop the awakening. "Jerome is just the first step! We are everywhere!" Gordon puts out an APB for the HAHAHA smile symbol.

Dwight's getting ready for his Frankensteining of Jerome. Good golly this is creepy. He starts the process of waking him up - laughing the whole time.

Mayor Cobblepot gets a visit from Babs, as she reads him a newspaper report about his press meltdown. Tommy Bones and "The Duke" are talking about Penguin falling from grace. Babs takes charge and says she'll call the heads of family together, and he's to meet them at Sirens.

Bruce did in fact pull the money together, but Selina's not happy about it. "You pay a guy like Cole, all he does is come back again and again." She also happens to be right, more than likely.

Jim and Harvey take a look at pictures of the smile painted all over town - it looks like this movement is bigger than they thought. They go to where there was a power surge - but there's a mole in the GCPD, and he calls to warn Dwight and his followers.

For some reason, Jerome is not waking up the way he should be. Dwight kills one of the followers for harrassing him about it - "They want to see his face!" the follower says. Dwight says, "you know he makes an interesting point - they want to see your face" and he cuts it off with a scalpel. That's... different. Jim and Harvey arrive to the scene to find that - Jerome on the table with no face.

Dwight comes out to the followers wearing Jerome's face. They're not impressed. "Each of you is Jerome. I am Jerome. We are all Jerome!" That starts rallying them.

Faceless Jerome is now on a slab at GCPD - and his finger twitches when Lee walks away. In the Captain's office, Lucius presents evidence there's a mole in the GCPD. Jim goes out into the bullpen and announces there's a mole - he goes to call from the cellphone that was at the scene, bluffing that it'll call the direct extension - and the bluff works.

Penguin shows up at Sirens, and Babs tells him no one showed up when she put out the word. Also, her dress is fantastic. She tells Penguin he should probably kill a couple of the other heads of family as an example. He sees through her and tells her she is "tragically out of her depth." As he threatens to call one of them to ask if she really attempted to set up a meeting, Tommy Bones calls and says "You get the message? Your day is done. We don't work for you anymore." Bones says he has Nygma and he'll die if Penguin doesn't back down. He flips out and leaves. Indeed, Tabs is there with Tommy holding a gun to him. For a job well done, he catches a bullet to the chest.

Officer Andrew is unrepentant for working for Jerome's people. Jim hits him, and he keeps laughing maniacally. As Jim and Harvey beat him down, Lee walks in with a syringe, and injects him with sodium pentathol - truth serum - to get him to talk. "None of us should bend the rules, especially not you, you're better than that," Jim says to her. Despite her calling off the assassination last week, she's still suuuuper pissed about him killing her homicidal husband who was about to murder her, because that's normal.

Dwight and his followers - oh, Dwight still has Jerome's face beeteedubs - show up at a news station for Channel 9 to take it over and make an address.

Jerome indeed wakes up and kills a cop, and takes Lee hostage - he has bandages on now, on his face. Lee tells him about being dead and all. He's doing a lot more of a Heath Ledger Joker this time around. When she says Jim killed her husband on their wedding night, Jerome starts laughing. "Wow, you miss a lot being dead!" He's pissed Theo Galavan is dead (and that he came back to life too).

The GCPD shows up at Channel 9 in force, and there's a hostage right away.

Maria drops the money off at Cole's hotel room - he says, "We did it baby! Smile, we won!" Selina followed Maria and heard Cole. "You caught me, what do you want me to say?" Selina is not happy, obviously. "I don't care about the money. I care that my mother, who left me when I was a kid only came back to use me." Poor Selina. She tells them not to ever come back and leaves in tears.

Dwight is prepping for their broadcast, and Jim calls. He tells Dwight he doesn't have what it takes to lead the cult. "I am Jerome, and soon Gotham will know it!"

Babs and Tabs continue their coup of Penguin's crew. They plan to kill Nygma when it's all over. They have a few of the other heads of families over there, and Tabitha kills them all. Gotham's landscape is changing.

Dwight goes on the air wearing Jerome's face. "Brothers and sisters, my name is Dw- my name is Jerome." Jerome's watching and he's not impressed. He ties up Lee and leaves her there, while he goes out in a cop uniform (um, still with no face). Jerome speeds off in a cop car on his way to the news station and the cultists.

Jim and the GCPD begin their infiltration of the station and free a hostage right away. Dwight keeps his broadcast going, "Each of you is Jerome. All of us are Jerome. We are all Jerome." he says repeatedly. The cops bust in and start taking cultists out. Jim handcuffs Dwight (with Jerome's face).

Bruce is training, boxing, and Selina comes in to ask him if he knew. "Yes, it was obvious. If I didn't give her the money she's skip town." She's pissed that he didn't tell her his suspicions about her mother. "You and her, you both lied to me." "But for very different reasons." She starts to swing at him, and he dodges and blocks fairly easily. She wants to fight, and he won't. "The only reason she came back to Gotham, the only reason she tracked me down after eleven years, was you," she says angrily.

The GCPD continues their arrest of Dwight and his cult - and Jim gets a call from Lee that Jerome is alive and coming for Dwight. He takes him, kills another cop, and heads out telling him they "have a busy night ahead."

Jerome staples his face back on with a staple gun - Dwight is scared - with good reason.

Penguin is pissed and still looking for Ed Nygma, but his thugs can't find him. Ed calls him and continues to trick him, says he's at Kane chemicals.

Jerome begins a broadcast. "Hi, some of you may know, I died. Take it from me, Death is dull. Coming back, that is something. Leave it to dying to give you a whole new perspective on life." He has Dwight tied up explosives everywhere. Jerome says "tonight there are no rules. Tonight, Gotham, do what you want, kill who you want. And tomorrow, like me, you will be reborn."

Jim recognizes he's at the power plant, and Harvey calls a chopper - but Jim gets to the roof just in time to see the power plant explode - and a blackout sweep Gotham City. Oh, they're in some sh*t now.
