Gotham's Erin Richards Says A "Big Change" Is Coming For Barbara

Gotham is home to some of the more eccentric characters in the DC Universe, and despite not originating from the books, Barbara Kean has managed to become one of the most popular in FOX's take on the Batman mythos. The character has changed a great deal since being introduced, and some theorize she could eventually take the popular Harley Quinn identity on later this season.

Gotham actress Erin Richards, who plays Kean on the hit show, recently spoke to Moviefone about the character's arc since she came on the scene. She's gone from fiance to inmate to challenging Penguin's underworld throne, and more changes are coming. Richards described finding the character's heart, and how she looks at her current girlfriend Tabitha.

"Then Tabitha, I would agree, yeah, that's her only other person that she actually feels a connection with, because everybody else she sort of uses. But Tabitha she really needs, and I think needs on several levels, like emotionally and physically, she needs to be protected by Tabitha because Tabitha can fight, and she can't fight. Yeah, I think that connection between them is something that she cherishes, even though she might not admit it. And, unfortunately, in this part of the season, we're going to see that very strained because of what's happening with them now." That separation will have an effect on Keane, with Richards saying "Oh, quite a lot! It's the culmination of the last episode. It leads to a big change in her."

Could that be the breaking point for her? She was also asked if she would eventually end up going more of a supervillain route. "Absolutely. I think it's sort of the next natural progression for her. We may or may not see something like that happening in the final episode [of the season]." When asked "do you hope it's a classic?" she said "I know what you're going for here. I know what it is, and it's great."

Guess fans will just have to wait and see, but it does seem like a genuine possibility, and the perfect setup to debut their own version of the popular character. You can find the synopsis for the next episode below.

Nygma convinces himself that he doesn't need Penguin to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as "The Riddler." Bullock and Lucius Fox get caught up in Nygma's mind games, while Gordon learns troubling news about his father's death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.

The regular cast features: Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as the future Poison Ivy, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, and Benedict Samuel as Mad Hatter.
