Injustice 2 Comic Launches April 2017

Hot on the heels of the Injustice 2 story trailer, DC Comics is bringing the Injustice comic into the new era of the sequel, as well. The comic will debut April 11, 2017 as a digital-first series, just as the original tie-in comic was, and will continue to be fully canon to the story and world of the video games. What's more, writer Tom Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo, who both worked on Injustice: Gods Among Us, return to launch the new series.

"Returning to Injustice and working with Tom again feels like a homecoming," said Redondo in a press release. "Much of the work I'm most proud of is what Tom and I did during the first comic and it feels great to come back. Tom is one of my favorite writers and one that I enjoy working with the most. We have a similar understanding of the characters, the drama and the humor, which I think helped make the first series so successful. Working in the Injustice universe allows us to do so many things we're unable to do in any other comic and I can't wait for fans to see what we have in store for Injustice 2."

Back at San Diego Comic-Con, Injustice 2 the comic was announced, and Taylor revealed that it will take place, at least at the start, in-between the two games, picking up right where Gods Among Us ended.

"The comic begins as the last game ends. Superman is locked up, the world is in turmoil, and someone needs to rebuild it, and of course, that's Batman," Taylor told Comicbook.com in an interview at San Diego Comic-Con. "So Batman wants to rebuild, but there's a power vacuum at the same time, so there are other forces who want to tear things down or reshape the world how they want. We have a big, epic story to tell in-between about reshaping it. Having essentially torn down that world, to rebuild it, is not a thing we've seen superheroes really do before. We saw Bruce Wayne do it maybe a little bit in things like 'No Man's Land,' helping rebuild Gotham, but this is on a much larger scale."

Now, working with Redondo again is a thrill for Taylor. "He's a good friend and an incredible talent," he said in the press release. "I think Bruno gets me as well as any artist ever has."

Redondo will provide both interiors and covers for the series launch, with Juan Albarran and Mike Miller also returning to the weekly digital series later, and Daniel Sempere moving from another DC Digital series, Arrow: The Dark Archer, to contribute to Injustice 2.

The series launches in April digitally, then as a twice-monthly print comic starting in May to coincide with the game's launch on May 16, 2017.
